They will walk you through installing Frescobaldi and Lilypond (you need both btw) much better than I can. There is much more information about both Lilypond and Frescobaldi at their respective web-sites. Without Frescobaldi you would just be using a plain text editor like Notepad to tweak the Lilypond source files – perfectly possible but much less than optimal. Sometimes the creator of each edition provides the editable source they used to generate their PDF file. When looking for a score of some music on CPDL, how many times have you thought “I wish that edition was a tone higher” or “the music font is much too big” and so on? CPDL is great, but finding the right piece in the format which is right for you can be time-consuming, dispiriting and (too often) ultimately fruitless.
